La Iglesia en las Américas celebra la Fiesta de la Bienaventurada Virgen María de Guadalupe, Patrona de las Américas, el 12 de diciembre de 2019

La historia del origen de la milagrosa imagen de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe es muy conocida. Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin era un campesino pobre, callado y humilde. Cuando la Santísima Virgen María se le apareció y le encomendó que fuera a pedirle al obispo de la localidad a que construyera una iglesia en el lugar de la aparición en su honor, Juan Diego se resistió a llevar el mensaje al obispo pues pensó que no le creería. Luego de recoger flores y colocarlas en su tilma para ofrecerlas a la Virgen, ella le pidió a Juan Diego que llevara las flores al obispo como prueba de su aparición. Una vez frente al obispo, Juan Diego abrió su tilma y dejo caer las flores, exponiendo la bella imagen de la Virgen en su tilma, vestida con la apariencia de una joven india azteca.

La iglesia fue construida, millones de nativos se convirtieron a la fe católica y la Iglesia se dedicó a proteger las poblaciones indígenas.

The story of the origins of the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe is well known. Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin was a quiet, humble man, a poor peasant. When the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to him and asked him to tell the local bishop to build a church in her honor, Juan Diego became a very reluctant messenger. The bishop would not believe him. So Mary filled Juan Diego’s tilma, or cloak, with roses in December, and when he emptied out these beautiful flowers at the bishop’s feet, there, imprinted on his tilma, was a wonderful image of the Virgin, dressed like a young Aztec woman.

The chapel was quickly built, millions embraced Christianity, and the Church increased its protection of the indigenous peoples.

Simbang Gabi

All are invited to participate in the Philippine tradition of “Simbang Gabi”, a series of 9 Novena Masses of Advent in honor of the Virgin Mary which represents the 9-month stay of the Infant Jesus in the womb of our Lady leading up to Christmas. The last day of the Simbang Gabi offers a spiritual preparation for commemorating the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
